
GEORGETOWN - The Southwestern University men's tennis team returned home for the first time since March 2nd as they welcomed in LeTourneau University to the Marvin D. Henderson Courts. The Pirates rolled on Friday evening, earning a 9-0 win.
The Pirates got things rolling at No. 3 doubles, at sophomores Dean Dulthummon and Jeremy Wilson earned an 8-2 win. Senior David Strong and sophomore Tyler Norman got a late break to put away two doubles with an 8-4 win while senior Grant Gideon and sophomore Alexis Dimanche fought off a strong YellowJacket serve and an early deficit to earned an 8-6 win at one singles.
"Great comeback win for Grant and Alexis at one doubles being down a break early," said Head Coach Billy Porter.
In singles action, Wilson led things off with no trouble in a 6-0, 6-0 win at five singles while his doubles partner Dulthummon clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win at three singles. Dimanche earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at one singles while junior Alonso Fernandez had no trouble in a 6-0, 6-0 win at six singles.
The final two matches would be quite a test as Gideon earned a tough three set with at two doubles by the score of 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 while Norman also won in three sets, 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 10-8, to complete the sweep at four singles.
