Men's tennis prepped for long SCAC Championship run this week

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern University men's tennis team will enter this week's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament as the No. 2 seed. The event is scheduled to take place Friday-Sunday at the George and Frances Cree Tennis Complex in Kerrville.

The Pirates (17-6), who have won 11 of their last 12 matches, will meet seventh-seeded Centenary in the opening round at 9 a.m. Friday.

Southwestern earned a sweep against the Gents in Sunday's regular-season finale in Shreveport, La.

The Pirates have collected nine sweeps this year, including three in their last four outings.

Southwestern's top three doubles teams have had a lot of success this season.

Grant Gideon and Nickoloz Snovely are 16-2 at No. 1 doubles, and the duo has won 10 straight matches. Will Ellis and Sam McCready have earned a 13-5 record between the top two spots, while Nick Farmen and Rod Khansari are 13-4 at No. 3 doubles.

Meanwhile, Snovely leads the Bucs' singles contingent with a 12-3 mark at the top spot. The Pearland native has been named SCAC Player of the Week three times this season and takes an eight-match winning streak into the tournament.

Carmen has registered a 12-6 mark between Nos. 1 and 2 singles, while Gideon is 11-6 at the second and third positions. Haluki Nakayama is 13-7 between the top four positions, including a 8-4 record at the fourth spot.
