Southwestern sweeps Howard Payne on Tuesday

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Southwestern University men's tennis team rolled over Howard Payne on Tuesday with a 9-0 victory. It marked the fourth consecutive victory for the Pirates.

Southwestern (10-5) played a near flawless match, especially in doubles action. The Pirates surrendered only three games in the three pairings, while also sweeping the second and third spots.

Haluki Nakayama stepped up to No. 1 singles and rattled off a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Alonso Fernandez added a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at the second spot.

David Strong was victories in straight sets at the third position, while Will Ellis cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at the fourth spot.

Caleb Righter and AJ Garcia both added wins at the fifth and sixth spots, respectively, in straight sets.

The Pirates will host Schreiner on Saturday at the Marvin D. Henderson Sr. Tennis Courts. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
