Southwestern sweeps Occidental to conclude West Coast trip

GLENDALE, Calif. – The Southwestern University men's tennis team logged a 9-0 win over Occidental on Sunday at Scholl Canyon Country Club to wrap up a West Coast road trip.

The Pirates (8-5) swept all three doubles tilts and then won all six singles matchups in straight sets.

Grant Gideon and Nickoloz Snovely registered an 8-2 win at the top doubles spot. Will Ellis and Sam McCready earned an 8-4 victory at the second position, while Nick Farmen and Rod Khansari posted an 8-0 triumph at the third spot.

Alonso Fernandez put Southwestern up 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.

He was followed by Farmen at the second spot, who bested Isa Kibira 6-0, 6-3. Haluki Nakayama then logged a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the fourth position to push SU's advantage to 6-0.

Gideon, Snovely and McCready all finished off their opponents in straight sets to clinch the sweep.

The Pirates will return home to face Concordia Texas on Wednesday, March 23. First serve is slated for 5 p.m. at the Marvin D. Henderson Sr. Tennis Courts.
