Men's tennis rolls past LeTourneau, falls to No. 27 Texas-Tyler on Saturday

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern University men's tennis team split a pair of non-conference matches on the road Saturday. The Pirates started the day with an 8-1 victory at LeTourneau. Later in the day, Southwestern dropped an 8-1 decision at No. 27 Texas-Tyler.

Haluki Nakayama led the Pirates (3-2) with two wins in singles action.

Southwestern will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 27, as the squad hosts both Sul Ross State (10 a.m.) and East Texas Baptist (4 p.m.)


In the opening match of the day, the Pirates started strong with three wins in doubles play. Southwestern then won five of six singles matchups to earn the seven-point victory.

Nakayama collected a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, while Nick Farmer was a 7-5, 6-1 winner at the top spot. Sam McCready also excelled with a straight-sets (6-1, 6-1) win at the fifth spot.

In the nightcap, an unbeaten Patriots team started out with three consecutive wins in doubles play to take an early lead. Texas-Tyler then captured five of six wins in singles play to claim the match.

Nakayama earned the lone point for the Pirates at No. 4 singles. The Houston native defeated Pablo Gomez, 6-4, 6-2, to stay perfect on the day.
