St. Edward's hands Southwestern 8-1 loss in dual-match opener on Saturday

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern University men's tennis team was handed an 8-1 loss in dual-match play by St. Edward's Saturday at the Marvin D. Henderson Sr. Tennis Courts.

The Hilltoppers (1-1), who are ranked 24th nationally at the Division II level, won all matchups, except at No. 1 doubles.

The Pirates (0-1) picked up the top doubles point after Nickoloz Snovely and Grant Gideon earned a 9-7 victory over Ricardo Pineda and Maximo Agoglia.

Meanwhile, Snovely pushed Pineda to a tiebreaker set at No. 1 singles, but was unable to earn the win. Pineda rallied from a set down to win 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-8).

Southwestern will resume action next Saturday, as the squad travels to play both Austin College and Texas-Dallas on the road. The Pirates will match up with the 'Roos at 10 a.m. in Sherman and then travel over to Richardson to face the Comets at 4 p.m.
