Men's Lacrosse Defeated by Illinois Wesleyan

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Men's Lacrosse (2-9) took their fifth road trip of the season to Bloomington, Illinois to play against the Illinois Wesleyan Spartans (4-3) on Thursday Night. The Pirates led the Spartans 3-2 in the first quarter, but that was as close as Southwestern would get as the Spartans pulled away with seven goals in the second quarter. Eleven more goals in the second half would give the Spartans an 8-20 victory over the Pirates. 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Chris Steffek led the Pirates in caused turnovers for the game with three, he currently leads the Pirates with thirteen on the season. 
  • Southwestern won nineteen out of thirty-one faceoffs thanks to Trey Pena, who went 15-22 on the night.
  • Jackson Strauser led the team with five points, going for two goals and three assists.

NOTES

  • Cade McDonald scooped up ten ground balls in the game, leading both teams in the category. 
  • Southwestern turned the ball over twenty-eight times, opposed to the Spartans nineteen.
  • Matthew Houtz and Matt Caldwell each netted two goals. 

UP NEXT

  • Men's lacrosse will stay in Illinois to play the Elmhurst University BlueJays on Saturday, March 30th at 11:00 AM. The contest was moved up an hour from its original 12:00 PM start time.
