Pirates extend win streak to four

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Southwestern men's lacrosse team extended their win streak and continued to set a new record for wins with a 16-2 victory over Capital on Sunday.

The Pirates absolutely dominated the first half, scoring three first quarter goals and six in the second, to lead 9-1 at halftime. Tyler Downing continued his unstoppable streak offensively with three goals while Austin Fox and Michael Villa contributed two each.

With a comfortable lead the Pirates continued to press on and scored three goals to open the second half before Capital was able to sneak one past Charlie Fisher in goal. Fisher posted his sixth win of the season with eight saves on 10 shots.

SU closed the third with a goal from Jeremy Tufnell and rattled off three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to win 16-2.

Fox had a huge day with three goals and two assists while Downing posted four goals. Kyle Anderson grabbed five ground balls to lead SU while Daniel Ayala was impressive on the back line with seven caused turnovers.

Now 9-4 on the season, the Pirates have a week off before returning home for their final SCAC conference match-up and regular season finale. They face Centenary College on Saturday, April 19th for senior day before hosting the SCAC Conference Championship on April 26th
