Men's Lacrosse Beaten By Knights in Double Overtime

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Men's Lacrosse (0-2) set out for Buena Vista, Virginia for their third road game of the season to battle the Southern Virginia Knights (0-4) at Knight Stadium. The contest was a back-and-forth, high-scoring affair all throughout the night. In the end, it would take two extra periods of overtime to decide a winner as the Pirates were bested by the Knights, 17-16. 

 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sophomore attackman Jackson Strauser had a career-high four goals against the Knights.
  • Chris Steffek led all defensemen in ground balls with five on the night as well as two caused turnovers.
  • Matthew Houtz recorded a hat trick along with one assist.
  • Matt Caldwell led the Pirates in points with five total (2G, 3A).

NOTES

  • Southwestern goaltender Will Walsh saw 68 shots, with 34 landing on cage and 17 saves. 
  • Both teams had a combined 44 turnovers in the game (SU 23, SVU 21)
  • The Pirate offense had a 55.2% shot-on-goal percentage. 
  • Twenty-two total goals were scored between the two teams in the first half of play.
