Men's Lax Roll to Win Over Carroll

IRVING, Texas - The Southwestern Univesity men's lacrosse team had no trouble on Saturday afternoon on the campus of the University of Dallas as they rolled past Carroll (WI) by the score of 26-2.

Southwestern out shot the Pioneers 52-14 and dominated face offs, winning 26 of 31. Southweastern forced 28 turnovers and got 51 ground balls to Carroll's 23. 

The Pirates scored seven in the first period and nine in the second, including nine consecutive goals to open up a 16-2 lead at the break. Senior Matt Amerie scored four goals in the first half alone while junior Kai Knight-Turcan and freshman Zac Asbury each had three goals.

The Pirates were able to empty the bench in the second half and shutout Carroll in the process, scoring 10 goals in the second half for a 26-2 victory.

Amerie added two assists to his four goal game while Asbury had six assists for nine toal points and Knight-Turcan had two assists. Junior Logan Spalding scored three goals as well for the Pirates. Freshman Thomas Volpe scored three and assisted on three more while fellow freshman Benjamin Libby had three goals and an assist. Fresman Jacob Hamilton added two goals and an assist.

Senior Jordan Riggs had three caused turnovers while freshman Achilles Armendariz finished with 14 ground balls as he dominated face-offs. Senior Sean Smith added four ground balls. Junior Kyle Kuberski got the start in goal and had five saves while freshmen Patrick Sinclair and Spencer Au combined for a shutout in the second half.

Southwestern moves to 8-6 overall and will take the rest of March off. They return to action on April 7th as they head back to Irving to battle the University of Dallas at 1 PM.
