Second half surge costs Pirates in Colorado

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Southwestern trailed by just one goal at halftime but were unable to hang with the Tigers in the second half, falling 19-6 to Colorado College Friday.

The Tigers owned the first quarter, taking a 3-0 lead at the end of the frame, but Southwestern got hot and outscored CC 3-1 in the second to trail 4-3 at the break.

Colorado College surged out of halftime and rattled off seven straight to take a commanding lead. Matt Amerie's man-up goal stopped the bleeding, but the Tigers pressed on to score six more unanswered.

Matthew Montagne led offensively for the Pirates with one goal and two assists while Amerie and Jared Welsh each netted two. Tanner Wallace led the defense with five groundballs.

The loss drops SU to 9-6 on the season. They have one more chance to tie their season wins record as they face Whittier College on Saturday in Colorado Springs at 1 p.m.
