Southwestern University Pirates men's lacrosse faceoff specialist Zane Abbott was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Pirates' 27-1 victory over the Centenary Gentlemen on Saturday, March 8.

Abbott helped tie a Southwestern team record of 30 won face-offs by going a perfect 23-for-23. He also led the team with eight ground balls in the Pirates' stingiest defensive performance of the season. Abbott is the third Pirate to win Defensive Player of the Week this season, joining teammates Alex Melitz and Hudson Bearden.

For the season, Abbott is second in the SCAC in won face-offs with 36, splitting time with Bearden. He is first in the SCAC and fourth in the nation in face-off winning percentage at 80.0 percent. The Pirates are second in Division III in face-off winning percentage at 78.8 percent.
