Southwestern University Pirates sophomore attacker Zac Asbury was named the 2019 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Men's Lacrosse Offensive-Player-of-the-Year, headlining 10 Pirates to earn All-SCAC honors.

Asbury, a sophomore attacker from Thousand Oaks, Calif., set a new SCAC single-season mark for points with 99 on 40 goals and 59 assists in 17 games. His 59 assists also set a new league record for helpers in a single season, while his 40 goals – second in the SCAC – helped the Pirates establish a new SCAC singleseason team-high for goals with 297. A two-time SCAC Offensive-Player-of-the-Week selection, Asbury scored two or more goals on 11 different occasions this year, highlighted by a six-goal, eight-assist effort in a 22-4 win against Cornell College on March 11. He passed out four or more assists in eight games this season, led by a season-high eight helpers in both the win over Cornell and a 20-11 season-opening victory against Huntingdon. Asbury is the second Southwestern student-athlete to earn Offensive

Player-of-the-Year recognition, joining Tyler Downing who took home top honors following the 2014 season.

The SCAC also named first year Tyler Santos the 2019 Newcomer-of-the-Year,  receiving three of the four first-place votes. Santos was also named All-SCAC First Team LSM Specialist. Again, from the SCAC:

Santos, a freshman long stick midfielder from San Diego, Calif., helped lead a Southwestern defense that ranked first in the SCAC in ground balls with 35.82 per game. He helped the Pirates to the top ranking in the league in goals against average (10.58) and a number two ranking in caused turnovers (9.18 per game). Individually, Santos totaled 41 ground balls, good enough for sixth in the SCAC, and caused 18 turnovers which was fourth-best in the league. Santos is the second Southwestern student-athlete to earn Newcomer-of-the-Year recognition, joining Austin Fox who took home the honor following the 2013 season.

In addition to Asbury and Santos, attacker Kai Knight-Turcan, Midfielders Logan Spalding and Jared Welsh, Defender Bailey Middleton, and Face-Off Specialist Zane Abbott were also named First Team All-SCAC.

Knight-Turcan led the SCAC in goals with 48, finishing his career as the Pirates' all-time leader in goals (149) and points (222). He finished fourth in the conference in assists (22), second in points (70), and first in man-up goals (10).

Spalding finished third in the SCAC in goals (28), eighth in assists (11), and sixth in points (39). Welsh was third in the SCAC in assists (33) and fifth in goals (27), which was good for fourth in points (60).

Middleton finished second in the SCAC in caused turnovers (19) and 16^th in ground balls (27). Abbott led the SCAC in ground balls (72) and faceoffs (169-248), finishing sixth in faceoff percentage (68.1).

Midfielder Everett Barger, Goalkeeper Kyle Kuberski, and Short Stick Specialist Blake Sterger were named to the All-SCAC Second Team.

Barger finished the season eighth in the SCAC in goals (24) and sixth in assists (12), which was good for seventh in points (36). He also had 26 ground balls and caused six turnovers.

Kuberski finished second in the SCAC in saves (142) and save percentage (52.4), completing his collegiate career with the second-most saves in Pirates' history with 413.

Sterger finished sixth in the SCAC in caused turnovers (11), scoring 12 goals and two assists for 14 points with 34 ground balls.
