Austin graduated in 2013 from E.C. Glass HS. In 2012, during his junior year, he won the Coaches Award, was named Honorable Mention All-District, and was part of the district and regional championship team. During his senior year he was named Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-District, and once again was a member of the district and regional championship team.

Austin in the son of Bill and Heidi McCrory and is the brother of Kirin McCrory.
