
GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University Baseball team collected five College Sports Communicators Academic All-District awards this week, receiving all five available nominations. Those named to the academic all-district list were seniors Alexander Cannata and Maxwell Mims and juniors Christian Melillo, James Vaquero, and Ryan Corbett.
"The 2024 Academic All-District® Baseball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes baseball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA."
To qualify for CSC Academic All-District, an athlete must have these qualifications:
Academic standing:
- Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
- Institutions may only nominate five athletes for CSC Academic All-District Awards in Baseball.
Academic eligibility:
- An undergraduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).
- The cumulative grade point average may not be rounded up to 3.50.
Athletic eligibility
- Baseball: Student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games/contests played OR must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games/contests. For baseball and softball pitchers, it is 17 appearances or 25 innings pitched.
