Pirate Baseball Takes Down Comets 7-5

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Baseball (15-14) hosted the University of Texas - Dallas Comets (21-7) on Wednesday night, previously taking on the Comets on February 27th in Richardson, Texas. The Pirates lost the first matchup to UTD 1-3, but the bats for Southwestern faired much better in the second go around, scoring runs in five out of the eight innings at the plate. The Southwestern offense led the Pirates to a 7-5 victory over the Comets, who received votes in this week's Top 25 rankings. 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Christian Melillo led the Pirates in RBIs on the night, driving in two runs off one walk and one homerun. 
  • Garrett Guinn got the start on the mound for Pirates, pitching six innings with two strikeouts, and allowing two earned runs.
  • James Vaquero put up three hits and one RBI against the Comets.

NOTES

  • Ty Elder pitched 2.1 innings for Southwestern, earning a save with three strikeouts and no earned runs. 
  • Maxwell Mims went for two hits and one RBI; Mims RBI put the Pirates up 2-0 in the bottom of the first. 
  • The Comets committed three errors on the night and the Pirates limited them to runs in just two innings.
