Baseball Loses Game One to Centenary, Faces Trinity in Elimination Game

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The 2024 SCAC Baseball Tournament's second game on Friday featured #3-seeded Southwestern University and #2-seeded Centenary College. The first game of the day between #1 Trinity and #4 TLU ended in an upset, with the Bulldogs defeating the Tigers 6-3 in the opening round. The game between the Pirates and the Gents would determine who advances to face the Bulldogs in the semifinal round and who would end up one game away from elimination. 

The Pirates gave up five runs to start the ball game, letting up three runs in the first inning and two runs in the second. Southwestern, however, clawed four runs back in the latter half of the game, also limiting the Gents to no runs scored until the bottom of the eighth inning. Despite the Pirate's effort, they were unable to come away with a win, dropping the opening game of the conference tournament, 4-6.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Tres Organ had two hits and two RBIs in four at-bats, leading the Pirates in RBIs for the game.
  • Ben Feuer led the Pirates in hits with three total, also collecting one RBI.
  • Jake Harris doubled in the top of the third inning on one of his two hits. He also drove in a run off a sac fly in the top of the fifth. 

NOTES 

  • The Pirates more than doubled the Gents in total hits for the game, notching twelve hits to the Gent's five. 
  • Gents hitters struck out just four times in the games and were walked seven times. Southwestern was walked just once in the matchup.
  • Centenary gained five of their runs off a home run (3) and triple base hit (2).
