Mims Joins 200 Hit Club, Owns All-Time Record For Stolen Bases in a Career

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Baseball (23-13, 13-6) finalized their regular season at Rockwell Family Field on Saturday afternoon, battling the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs (21-15, 10-9) in the final conference series of the season. The Pirates walked off the Bulldogs in game one of the series but were unable to grab another win to secure the series victory on Saturday. The Bulldogs defeated Southwestern in both games of the doubleheader by margins of 9-5 and 5-4, respectively. The Pirate's performance throughout the year has guaranteed them a spot in the SCAC Conference Tournament. 

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • Maxwell Mims solidified his place in the Southwestern record books on Saturday. With a stolen base in game two against the Bulldogs, Mims now holds the all-time record for stolen bases in a career for Pirate Baseball. Mims 80 career stolen bases surpassed the record of 79, previously held by Matt Gelotti since 2000. In addition, Mims also reached the 200-hit milestone for his career, recording 201 total hits so far in his time with the program.
  • The Pirates put up fifteen hits against TLU in game two. James Vaquero and Jacob Tanner led the way with three hits and two RBIs a piece.
  • Ryan Corbett threw six strikeouts and allowed two earned runs in 4.2 innings on the mound. 

GAME THREE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Owen Stevenson had two RBIs off a double base hit in game three. Mims also had two RBIs and a second-base hit.
  • Tanner led the Pirates in hits in game three with two of the six total hits. 
  • Stephen Rutherford went seven innings on the mound, throwing six strikeouts in 35 batters faced.

  • Southwestern Baseball will be the number three seed headed into the conference tournament next weekend. The 2024 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament will be held May 3rd - 5th at The Depot in Cleburne, Texas.
