IRVING, Texas — The Southwestern baseball team and the University of Dallas Crusaders combined for 27 runs with the Pirates on the wrong end of a 17-10 decision in the third game of the weekend's three-game series.

Dallas struck in the first inning. Joseph Vondrachek hit a leadoff single, and Southwestern starter J.J. Slack walked and hit the next two batters, ending his afternoon. Cole Johnson took the mound in relief, scoring Vondrachek on a wild pitch. After Johnson struck out Lowe, Grady Birmingham hit a two-RBI single to left field.

Two walks later, John Sparks took the mound for the Pirates, walking Maverick Martinez with bases loaded to score Birmingham to give Dallas a 4-0 lead.

Preston Witt answered with a leadoff home run in the top of the second, but Dallas added another two in the bottom of the inning. Nathan Patton hit a one-out triple, and Sparks hit one and walked another to load the bases. Zachary Taylor hit a one-RBI single, and then John Talley walked to score another.

Daniel Montgomery Jr. hit a solo blast in the top of the fourth, and once again, Dallas responded with a big inning, scoring six runs on six hits highlighted by a three-RBI double to left field from Vondrachek.

Southwestern scored two in the fifth. Witt walked with bases loaded to score one, then Montgomery hit a sacrifice fly to center. Dallas added another run in the bottom of the inning, and Southwestern scored two in the sixth, scoring on an error and Maxwell Mims RBI-double.

Jake Harris hit an RBI-single to center for Southwestern in the seventh, and Jon Talley responded with an RBI-double in the bottom of the inning. The Pirates scored another run in the eighth on an error, and Dallas answered with three in the bottom of the inning.

Harris hit the Pirates' third home run of the day in the top of the ninth, and Jacob Tanner had an RBI-single to left field, scoring Mims.

Mims was 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Five other Pirates had at least two hits, with Harris going 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Southwestern dropped to 7-10 with the loss, including 4-2 in conference play. Dallas improved to 5-10 with a 3-3 record in conference. Next week, the Pirates will remain on the road, playing a single game against Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday, then a three-game series against Schreiner next weekend.
