GEORGETOWN, TEXAS -  Southwestern University baseball is on a six-game winning streak after sweeping the St. Thomas Celts 3-0 in their conference series this past weekend. The Pirates played in a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday series on Rockwell Family Field and blew past the Celts on their way to being atop the SCAC standings.

Game 1

Southwestern jumped out to a 10-1 lead early on in the contest. The Pirates kicked off the series with three runs in the first inning, followed by seven runs in the third. The Celts managed two runs in the top of the fifth to make it 10-3. The Pirates went three innings without a run, and the Celts rallied in the top of the seventh with five runs to bring the game to 10-8 at the top of the eighth inning. The bats for the Pirates woke up back up in the bottom of the eighth, scoring two insurance runs and holding off the Celts to take a 12-9 win over St. Thomas.

Game 2

In game two on Saturday, the Pirates again put on a hitting clinic. By the top of the fourth inning, Southwestern led 9-0 thanks to four runs in the second and third inning and one in the first. The Celts did all they could to cut into the Pirate's lead by scoring five runs of their own in the top of the fourth, but that would be about all they could manage for the rest of the afternoon. The Pirates knocked in five more runs in dominant fashion to blow past the Celts in a 14-6 win.

Game 3

Consistent scoring was key for Pirate baseball in the final game on Sunday. Southwestern was able to manufacture runs throughout the game while playing excellent defense against St. Thomas that afternoon. Senior pitcher J.J. Slack went six innings for the Pirates with six strikeouts and two runs scored. Later on, newcomer Tres Organ took to the mound to finish the game with one strikeout, one hit, and no runs. Southwestern came away with a 5-2 victory for their final matchup with St. Thomas.

Southwestern turns right back around to play DePauw today at 6:00 PM on Rockwell Family Field.
