CLEBURNE, Texas — Southwestern baseball players Preston Witt and Bryce Debbs were named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) All-Tournament Team on Sunday.
Witt was the tournament's top first baseman, hitting .308 in three games with a pair of home runs, driving in four RBIs, and scoring twice. His two-out, two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning of Southwestern's 12-9 win over Centenary bought Southwestern some breathing room after the Gentlemen cut the Pirates' lead to one.
The sophomore infielder hit .268 this season in 34 games, finishing with 34 hits, including six doubles and six home runs, driving in 29 RBIs, and scoring 26 runs.
Debbs made the All-Tournament team as Southwestern's designated hitter. Debbs hit .364 with one home run in three games, driving in three RBIs, and scoring three runs. He hit 4-for-5 with a home run, a pair of doubles, and a single in Southwestern's win over Centenary.
After a slow start to the season, Debbs caught fire down the stretch, ending the year with a .310 batting average with four home runs, driving in 19 RBIs and 16 runs scored with five stolen bases.
Southwestern went 1-2 in the SCAC Tournament, losing to the conference champion Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs and runner-up Trinity University Tigers. The Pirates finished the season with a 19-19 record, including 13-5 in conference play.
