Centenary steals two from Pirates

SHREVEPORT, La. - Centenary captured two wins from Southwestern Saturday afternoon, defeating SU 6-5, 8-0. 

GAME 1: SOUTHWESTERN 5 - CENTENARY 6

Southwestern struck first with a run to open the game but the Gents were able to post three of their own in the second to take the lead. The lead seesawed back and forth throughout the game and went into the ninth tied 5-5 after Hayden Craig's single to center drove in Cole Kelly in the top of the eighth, tying the contest. 

Centenary's Chris Zapata got the game winning single that drove home Allbritton to hand the Gents the win. 

Byron Dowdell II went 2-5 from the plate with two RBIs while Kelly and Craig also posted two hit outings. Will Preston garnered the loss on the mound. 

GAME 2: SOUTHWESTERN 0 - CENTENARY 8

The Pirate's bats were quieted in the final game of the series. The Pirates were held to just four hits, one each to Daniel Montgomery, Seth Sparks, Austin Smith and Craig. 

Centenary led early with three runs in the first and added a run in the fifth, three in the sixth and one in the eighth en route to the shutout victory. Smith garnered the loss on the mound, his first of the season. 

Southwestern drops to 12-14 on the year and 5-7 in the SCAC after the weekend. They return to action on Tuesday, April 10th for a pair of seven-inning non-conference games against UT Dallas beginning at 3 pm.
