GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Southwestern baseball team evened its overall record with an 11-8 victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor Tuesday at Rockwell Field.
The Pirates (13-13) used a five-run third inning to jump out to an 8-2 advantage.
After the Cru (10-12) scored one in the fourth, UMHB added two in the sixth and seventh, but Southwestern matched both inning totals to remain in front, 11-6.
Mary Hardin-Baylor picked up two runs in the ninth, but the rally fell short.
Tyler Polasek (2-1) earned the victory after tossing five innings. The left-hander yield three runs (two earned) on three hits. He also fanned four and walked one.
Ethan Hallmark paced the offensive charge. The Midlothian native was 4 for 4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs. He also scored twice and swiped two bases.
Cameron Cooper had two hits and drove in three, while Cole Kelly hit a solo home run in the second inning.
Southwestern will return to action Friday, as it welcomes Austin College to town for a three-game set. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
