Pirates unable to overcome big first inning in 7-3 loss to No. 20 Texas-Tyler

GEORGETOWN, Texas - No. 20 Texas-Tyler scored four runs in the opening inning and Southwestern was unable to recover, as the Patriots went on to a 7-3 win on Tuesday night at Rockwell Field.

The Pirates (4-3) scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning to pull within one. However, Texas-Tyler (6-1) managed to plate a run in both the fifth and sixth frames to pull away. The Patriots added one more in the eighth to cap the scoring.

Southwestern managed seven hits, led by Ben Little's 2 for 5 performance. Cole Kelley also added a hit and two RBIs.

The Pirates received a strong relief outing from Colton Hunter, who worked a trio of scoreless panels. The freshman right-hander struck out four and allowed two hits on the night.

Southwestern will return to action this weekend in Austin. The Pirates will face Concordia-Chicago on Saturday at 1 p.m. SU also will face the Cougars the following day at 11 a.m. and then take on host Concordia Texas at 2 p.m.
