Eight-run eighth inning propels Southwestern to 10-5 victory on Tuesday night

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern scored eight runs in the eighth inning to overcome a two-run deficit and knock off Mary Hardin-Baylor, 10-5, on Tuesday night at Rockwell Field.

The Pirates (10-19), who trailed 4-2 in the eighth, sent 13 batters to the plate in the decisive frame.

Southwestern, which took advantage of three errors in the panel, pulled even on Ben Little's RBI single. Tyler Bludau then drew a walk with the bases loaded, which pushed Ethan Luna across the plate to give the Pirates the lead.

SU then tacked on five more tallies to pull away, including Will Cates' two-run single.

Riley Wayland (1-2) received the victory after tossing the final two frames.

Tyler Nelson (0-2) suffered the loss for the Cru (10-18) after yielding five runs (four earned) on seven hits in 7.1 innings.

Cates had two hits and stole a pair of bases. He led off the contest with an infield single and later was driven in on Luna's two-run bomb. Little also collected a pair of safeties.

The Pirates will return to action this weekend, as the squad travels to Shreveport, La., to play a three-game series with No. 12 Centenary.
