Baseball remains atop SCAC with 4-3 win over Austin College

Austin College opened the game up early, posting three runs in the top of the first inning. Starting pitcher Jacob Kendra settled in and shut down the 'Roos as the Pirates heated up offensively.

A third inning of four hits and two AC errors allowed the Pirates to post four runs and was all they needed to take the win. Chase Allen doubled down the left field line and moved to third on a deep fly to right by Tyler Bludau. Colten Shea singled to right to bring home Allen and then made it to third on a failed pickoff attempt. Will Cates singled to third, driving home Shea. Another 'Roo error on Ethan Luna's popup to the catcher allowed the inning to continue and SU took advantage with two more runs to take the lead.

SU's talented pitching staff and defense took over from there and closed out the game, allowing no hits or runs in the final three innings.

Southwestern was led by Allen at the plate who was 3-3 on the day. Kendra earned the win in six innings of work, allowing three runs on six hits while walking four and striking out three.

The Pirates remain atop the SCAC with a 6-1 conference record and improve to 14-11 on the year. Austin College falls to 3-14 overall and 1-6 in the SCAC.

The two teams will face off again on Saturday for a double header beginning at 1 p.m.
