GEORGETOWN, Texas – Trinity broke the SCAC Tournament record for hits in a game en route to the 21-1 victory over Dallas on Friday afternoon.
Trinity recorded 26 hits in a tournament game to break the previous record of 24 held by Southwestern. The Tigers' first 7 batters singled to start the game and went up 6-0 in the 1st inning.
TU's Muscarello and Hall hit back to back RBI doubles to add 2 runs to their lead in the following inning. The Tigers pushed the lead in the 3rd on a 3 RBI double by Hall. The hits kept coming as they scored 6 more runs in the 4th highlighted by a 3 RBI triple by Hirschberg.
Dallas got on the scoreboard in the top of the 6th. Caluda reached after being hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a single by Farris. Then Carlson hit a single to right center to score the run to make it a 17-1 game.
Trinity added 4 more runs in the 6th. Woodruff's single up the middle broke the record and Moore hit a RBI double to left center to set the new record at 26 hits and the 21-1 final score.
Lucero pitched 5 innings of shutout ball to record the win. Trinity advances in the tournament to play the winner of #1 Centenary / #4 Austin College tomorrow at noon. Dallas will face Southwestern at 7pm tonight.
