Pirates Overpowered by Tigers

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Southwestern suffered a loss on Sunday, getting overpowered by archrival Trinity 15-2.

In the top of the 1st inning, the Pirates had the potential to score when Will Burks, Cruz Luna, and Zachary Lynch loaded the bases with one out.  Trinity got Jay Sterling to foul out and Ketchum Marsh to strike out looking to end the Southwestern scoring threat.
The Tigers took over in the bottom of the 1st.  TU was able to load the bases and scored four runs.  Donnan hit a 2 RBI single to left field and brought home McEachern and Francke. After the pitcher committed a throwing error on a failed pickoff attempt, Singer singled up the middle for 2 RBI.   Donnan and Muscarello both scored on the play, putting Trinity up 4-0.
The top of the 2nd inning for the Pirates once again had the bases loaded by Glasgow, Lynch and Ross Meyer.  Again, Trinity got out of the jam by getting Cruz Luna to strike out swinging.
The Pirates broke through in the top of the 3rd as Colby Dutton hit a 2 RBI single, scoring Jay Sterling and Burks. However, Trinity began to pull away in the bottom half.  The Tigers had six consecutive hits, with three of them for extra bases and scored five runs to put them up 9-2.
TU scored four more runs in the 4th and a run apiece in the 5th and 6th innings to end the game at 15-2.
Colby Dutton led the Pirates offensively by going 1-4 with two RBI.  Southwestern falls to 1-16 on the season and Trinity moves to 12-2.
The Pirates will be back home this Wednesday, March 6th when they take on Cardinal Stritch at 6:00PM.
