FREEMAN NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM

Brantley Freeman, a sophomore left-hand pitcher from Mansfield, Texas, was named to the 2009 CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District baseball second team.

Freeman is majoring in Accounting at Southwestern and touts a 3.93 grade point average. In addition to his impressive work in the classroom, Freeman was a starting pitcher for the Pirates and had the best record at 5-3 for the 2009 season. He was second on the team in active starting pitchers with a 3.82 era. In his 63.2 innings of work he allowed 63 hits and 27 earned runs. He held opponents to a .256 batting average and struck out 66 hitters this season and walked just 29.

The Pirates ended the season at 16-23 overall, 9-11 in SCAC Conference action, and were just one game away from a return trip to the SCAC Conference Tournament. They were beat out in the final weekend of regular season play by eventual conference tournament champion Hendrix.
