Box Score

San Antonio - The Pirate baseball team dropped the third game of a three-game SCAC baseball series with Trinity University Saturday in a 1-0, 10-inning pitching duel at E.M. Stevens Field. The Tigers had six hits and the Pirates were limited to one.

With the loss the Pirates fall into a tie for third place, the final playoff spot, with Hendrix and two games behind second place Trinity at 15-20 overall and 8-9 in SCAC conference action.

In the tenth, Tiger sophomore center fielder John Paillet singled to the left side and drove in senior pinch runner Jason Ralph with two outs. Ralph substituted on base for senior left fielder Jordan Pennington, who had drawn a walk and advanced to second on a SAC bunt and to third on a single by Ramos. Ramos stole second, followed by Paillet's game-winning RBI.

Southwestern senior Wes Willis had an impressive showing. He threw nine innings allowing just four hits, no runs and one walk while striking out seven.

Offensively, the Pirates were able to get on due to Trinity errors and five walks, but were unable to capitalize and left nine runners on base in the game.

The Pirates will close out conference action with what has shaped up to be the series of the season for Southwestern. They face Hendrix on Saturday and Sunday for three games that will decide the third and final playoff spot in the SCAC conference tournament. Game one on Saturday is slated for 2:00 pm at Rockwell Family Baseball Field in Georgetown, Texas.
