JACKSON -- An opposite field homerun by Millsaps in the seventh inning kept Southwestern from notching an upset for a second day as they fell 5-3 to Millsaps in SCAC conference action Sunday.

The teams exchanged single runs through the first five innings behind strong pitching performances from Millsaps' Hudson and senior Wes Willis.

SU (15-16, 8-6 SCAC) scored in its opening at-bat for a brief lead, taking advantage of a throwing error with two outs and getting an RBI-double a batter later from 1B Kyle Belski.

Millsaps (26-4, 13-4 SCAC) responded with a run in its half of the first to tie it at 1-1, putting the first four runners on base and using a fielders' choice RBI. The Majors grabbed their first lead of the game in their ensuing at-bat, as Billy Murphy drove in Todd Barnthouse on an infield groundout after Barnthouse tripled to right-center.

Todd Boone's leadoff homer in the third -- his first of the year -- tied it at 2-2 for SU until a single run in the fifth off John Wooten's two-out, RBI-single stretched the lead to 3-2.

Hawkins' RBI-single in the fifth knotted it for a third time at 3-3, and after a scoreless sixth for both teams, Millsaps found the winning runs they needed in the seventh with two outs for the 5-3 victory.

Brent McMullen had two hits whereas six other Pirates picked up a hit.

Southwestern returns home for one game against Texas Lutheran at Rockwell Family Baseball Field. Game time is slated for 5:00 pm Tuesday.
