BASEBALL DROPS FIRST GAME AFTER BREAK

AUSTIN, Texas - The Southwestern University baseball team dropped a 4-2 game to Concordia-Austin on Tuesday to fall to 14-15 on the season. CUA improved to 16-15 with the win.

Both schools scored one run in the first inning of the contest and Southwestern took the lead in the third on an RBI single by 1B Kyle Belski that drove in CF Todd Boone. The Pirates led 2-1 through four and a half, but Concordia posted two runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 3-2. CUA pushed one more across the plate in the eighth and easily handled the Pirates in the top of the ninth to secure the 4-2 victory.

Chris Webber garnered the loss for Southwestern. He threw four innings allowing three runs on four hits with no walks and four strike outs. Alan Lowry came in relief for Southwestern and allowed just one run on one hit with three walks and two strike outs in four innings of work.

Offensively, Boone was the only Pirate to have a multi-hit game, going 2-3 from the plate with two runs and one walk. Brent McMullen, Michael Murphy, Belski, Ricky Gomez and Cray Betts all had one hit games for Southwestern.

The Pirates return to conference action this weekend with a two game series at first-place Millsaps (12-3). Southwestern is currently in second place in the conference with a 7-5 record. Games are slated to begin at 2 pm both Saturday and Sunday.
