Defense destroys Crusaders at home

Defense destroys Crusaders at home

Southwestern's defense was impenetrable as the Pirates held UD scoreless for nearly three quarters in a 17-2 win Saturday.

Dallas made a game of it early, scoring the first goal of the game and trailed by just two, 4-2, at the end of the first quarter.

Southwestern's defense stepped up, however, and locked down the Crusaders to hold them scoreless through the next 43 minutes. SU's offense was rolling as they worked the ball around the perimeter until they got good looks at goal and capitalized.

Everett Barger led the Pirates offensively with four goals and three assists while Matt Amerie notched five goals in the win. Charlie Fisher earned the win in goal with two saves on four shots and Evan Carlson posted two saves on three shots in 20 minutes.

Christopher Adams and Parker Rankin caused three turnovers each while Travis Zeiler dominated faceoffs with nine ground balls.

As a team, Southwestern out-shot Dallas 61-10 and forced UD into 33 turnovers.

Southwestern improves to 5-8 on the year while Dallas falls to 5-8. The Pirates remain at home for their final home game of the season as they host Centenary College on April 18th at noon for the Wounded Warrior Project fundraiser.
