Men’s lacrosse double-up Majors for win

Southwestern scored twice as many goals to defeat Millsaps College on Friday 14-7 to improve to 2-2 on the year.

The Pirates opened the game on a mission, scoring four goals while holding the Majors off the board to lead 4-0 through the first quarter. Millsaps snuck one past the SU defensive line to open the second, but Jackson Timian and Brandon Hanley teamed up to score another goal for SU to keep the Pirates up by four, 5-1.

Millsaps closed the half with a pair of goals to pull within two, 5-3, at the break and added one more just 20 seconds into the second half to come within one. Southwestern was not going to let the Majors even the count and scored three straight, getting goals from Dakota Butler, Jackson Timian and Matt Amerie, to lead 8-4 with six minutes to play in the third quarter.

Millsaps then scored three straight before the Pirates got hot again, closing the game on a 6-0 run to win 14-7. Butler led the way with four goals on eight shots while Amerie added three and Timian two with three assists. Justin Corwin led the defense with four caused turnovers and Conner Koper gathered five ground balls. Charlie Fisher earns the win in goal with 15 saves.

Southwestern remains on the road to face Centenary College on Sunday at noon in Shreveport.
