Turnovers costly in 15-13 loss to Alma

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern committed 15 first half turnovers and 25 for the game as Alma slid past the Pirates Monday evening.

SU was blazing out of the gate, taking a 3-0 lead in the first four minutes and seemed to have the game fully in control, but Alma scored five straight to take the lead. Following two ties and two lead changes the Scots went on a run to take their largest lead of the game, 12-9.

The Pirates trailed by three again early in the fourth, 13-10. Matthew Montagne kicked off the run that would pull SU even in the fourth. Back to back goals from Spence Bodenhamer tied the game 13-13 with 5:42 remaining. Alma closed the game with two goals from Jared Nycz and held Southwestern scoreless in the final five and a half minutes to take the win.

Bodenhamer posted three goals and three assists while Matt Amerie posted three goals. Jared Welsh led with four assists on the night and added two goals. Defensively, Bailey Middleton led with seven groundballs and Tanner Wallace led with four caused turnovers.

Southwestern drops to 3-2 on the season and remain at home to face Milwaukee School of Engineering on Wednesday evening at 7 pm.
