Southwestern falls in season finale 17-7 to Whittier

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Southwestern closes the 2017 season just one win shy of tying the program record for wins in a season, falling 17-7 to Whittier on Saturday.

Jared Welsh started SU off well with a goal to open the game, but Whittier pulled ahead and took a 10-5 lead into the break.

Unforced turnovers kept the Pirates from making up any ground in the second half as Whittier continued to pull away further.

Spence Bodenhamer led Southwestern with two goals and two assists while Jared Welsh added two goals and one assist.

Southwestern will close the season with a 9-7 overall record.
