JACKSON, Miss. - Southwestern shot out of the gates and closed the game with a nine-goal fourth quarter to defeat Millsaps 24-6 Friday night.
After trading goals in the opening frame Southwestern got hot and closed the first with five unanswered goals.
SU outscored Millsaps 5-3 in the second and 3-1 in the third to take a comfortable lead into the final frame.
The Pirates refused to back down, however, and added a dominating nine-unanswered goals to close the match.
Junior Matt Amerie set an SU record with eight goals on the night. Spence Bodenhamer added four goals with a team high four assists. Sean Smith and Zane Abbott led with six ground balls each.
Southwestern improves to 2-0 on the year and remains on the road to face Rhodes College on Sunday at noon.
