GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University men's lacrosse program was established in 2010. The program previously competed at the Divison II club level before turning to an NCAA Divison III program. Currently, the men's lacrosse team is the only Division III program in the state of Texas and one of very few that sits west of the Mississippi. The Pirates gained their 100th program win fittingly on the campus of Southwestern University at Varsity field.

Suitably, the Pirates would take the win against another opponent who sits in a non-traditional lacrosse region, the Whittier College Poets out of Los Angeles, California. Whittier has long stood as a benchmark of lacrosse in West along with Southwestern, unfortunately for Poets, this will be their last season of competition as a DIII program.

The Pirates sent off the Poets in an explosive fashion. Southwestern kicked off the first quarter with six straight goals before the Poets managed one in the final two minutes of the quarter. Five different Pirates scored, including Tyler Johnson, who took two of the six goals. Southwestern led 6-1 at the end of the first and never looked back.

Southwestern tacked on seven more goals in the second quarter, with one of those coming on an outside rip from senior defensemen Will Thompson. Cade McDonald secured a first-half hat trick against Whittier, while Jack Carolan added three points of his own. Senior attackman Logan Kenny was added into the game in the second quarter and banged home a goal, taking the Pirates to a 13-3 lead by halftime.

Four different freshmen scored goals in the contest, and the two Dallas Jesuit products, Jackson Strauser and Nate Duncan, finished the game with seven points between them. Will Walsh, the freshmen goaltender from San Antonio, ended his afternoon with eleven saves facing twenty-three shots. A mix of first-year and veteran production steered the Pirates to a 21-13 win over the Poets, breaking a three game losing streak for Southwestern.

Southwestern travels to Holland, Michigan, to meet the 4-4 Hope College Flying Dutchmen on Friday, March 31st at 4:00 PM CST.
