Pirates Rout Future Conference Foe Johnson & Wales

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern easily handled new SCAC foe Johnson & Wales (CO) Friday evening, defeating the Wildcats 24-3.

After a scoreless opening five minutes Southwestern found their groove offensively, scoring five goals in three minutes as part of a ten goal first quarter. It was more of the same in the second quarter as SU posted seven goals in the frame to lead 17-0 at the half.

Thomas Volpe's back-to-back goals to open the third quarter set the tone for the Pirates. After four Pirate goals JWU broke their drought as Deshaunte Longley found the back of the net, assisted by Joshua Williamson.

JWU struck first in the fourth quarter but were unable to get a run as the Pirates cruised to the win.

Southwestern dominated every category including losing just two faceoffs all evening. Zac Asbury led offensively with four goals and six assists while Matt Amerie posted five goals and one assist.

Jordan Riggs headed up the defense with four caused turnovers while Tyler Watts and Achilles Armendarez had ten ground balls each.

Southwestern improves to 4-4 on the year and remain at home to face Alfred Wednesday at 7 PM.
