HUDSON BEARDEN OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior faceoff specialist from Aledo, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player the Week for games played from Saturday, February 6 through Sunday, February 28.
Bearden ranks third in the nation through three games - and leads the conference - in both faceoff percentage (0.845) and ground balls per game (13.67). He had nine in Saturday's loss to CC and 16 on Sunday at Centenary.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior defensive midfielder Charlie Gans of Colorado College had a great week. He never needed assistance with defensive double teams and did not allow a goal in any of his one-on-one matchups. The physical short stick also chipped in offensively, hitting on 3-of-3 shot attempts and chipping in with an assist. First-year defender Matthew Lulich of Centenary had 10 ground balls in the Gents' first three games, including four against Averett and Southwestern. He also had four caused turnovers against the Pirates.
