SHREVEPORT, La. – The Southwestern University Pirates men's lacrosse team produced its most prolific scoring game of the season, defeating the Centenary Gentlemen 27-1 on the road.

The 27 goals in one game are the third most in Pirate history, trailing the 30 Southwestern put up against Johnson & Wales University last season and the 29 against Northwestern (Minn.) on March 7, 2017, and the second most scored in Division III so far this season.

Southwestern attacker Zac Asbury scored an unassisted goal at the 11:38 mark, followed by Centenary answering less than 30 seconds later on a Brooks Smitha goal off a Michael Mosura assist. The Pirates rattled off 26 unanswered goals after that.

Fifteen different Pirates scored, led by Cody Foster and Nick Doxey, who each had four goals on five shots with two assists to tie for the lead in points with six. Asbury followed with three goals and one assist.

Southwestern dominated possession by winning 30 of 31 face offs, tying a school individual game record set last season on fewer attempts, led by Zane Abbott's 23-for-23 performance.

The Pirates also tripled the Gentlemen in ground balls, finishing with a 36-11 advantage, led by Abbott's eight. Southwestern took advantage by putting together a 50-9 edge in shots taken, including a staggering 21-2 advantage in the first quarter.

Of Centenary's nine shots, five were on goal with Alex Melitz stopping one of two to pick up his fourth win in just under 13 minutes of play.

With the win, the Pirates improve to 4-0 on the season. With the University of Massachusetts-Boston game canceled this week, the Pirates will return to action on Saturday, March 14 on the road against Catholic University at noon.
