GEORGETOWN, Texas, - The Southwestern University Pirates won their third straight game of the season defeating the Berry College Vikings 16-8 this afternoon on Varsity Field.

At the start of the game, Southwestern was dominating the offense with every man getting a chance to take shots at the Vikings box. Zac Asbury, who scored the high of four goals, three assists and nine ground balls, started the game assisting the first goal that was made by Jack Doloszyck. Soon after Asbury scored the second goal unassisted and was then followed by Jack Carolan, Matt Minnick and Cody Foster to score all unassisted goals while Berry College scored only one goal by Travis Hastings. The Vikings struggled to take shots that were not high or wide around the box.

Going into the second half, both team's emotions were running high, causing penalties to be drawn one after the other. In what seemed to be the long quarter of penalties, this did not shake the Pirates offense. Even when playing with a two to one man down on offense Southwestern proceeded to score six more goals with Foster and Nick Doxey scoring down a man, ending the half 11-3.

Going into the third quarter, the Vikings turned up the energy of their offense taking 10 shots at the Pirate goal and answering every goal made by the Pirates with their own. However, the Pirates still managed to keep up on offense through penalty call after penalty call. The Pirates finished the game with another victory.

Hudson Bearden continues to keep dominating the faceoffs for the Pirates, winning 10-15 out of the 23 faceoffs against Berry College, as well picking up 7 groundballs and two caused turnovers. Bearden now holds 36-47 faceoff wins this season and accumulated a 76.6  win percentage.  Other highlighted players include Foster and Blake Sitterly, who scored three goals, Nick Doxey who scored two goals, and Jacob Hamilton, Jack Carolan, Matt Minnick and Doloszycki, who all contributed one goal each.

For the defense, Will Thompson had three caused turnovers while Tyler Santos and Bailey Middleton had two caused turnovers. Starting goalie Alex Melitz had five saves and Patrick Sinclair had three saves.

Up next, men's lacrosse will travel to their first away game to take on the Centenary College Gents in Shreveport, La., next Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m.
