GEORGETOWN, Texas – Attacker Zac Asbury picked up where he left off last season, scoring nine points off four goals and five assists in the Southwestern University Pirates men's lacrosse team's 15-8 victory over the Hendrix Warriors in the season opener.

Southwestern opened the game with penalty trouble, giving Hendrix an early 2-0 lead on a pair of man-up goals for the Warriors.

Asbury put the Pirates on the board at the 6:30 mark in the first quarter, scoring Southwestern's first goal of the season off a pass from Nick Doxey as Southwestern reeled off four consecutive goals, highlighted by a pair of scores from Jacob Hamilton within 13 seconds of each other.

The Pirates dominated possession, more than doubling the Warriors in shot attempts (52-25) and ground balls (47-22); controlling much of the game through face offs, where Southwestern won 19 of 26 with Hudson Bearden physically overwhelming opponents to win 12 of 16 opportunities and Zane Abbot taking an efficient 7 of 10.

Southwestern forced 24 turnovers, getting three caused turnovers each from Tyler Santos, Matt Minnick, and Alberto Quinones and a pair each from Aidan Gildea, Jack Doloszycki, and Bailey Middleton.

The Pirates strung together two 4-0 runs in the first half and scored six unanswered goals in the second half with Asbury scoring one unassisted goal and assisting on two others.

Hamilton finished with four goals on six shots to match Asbury for the game high. Blake Sitterly had three goals on four shots, and Doloszycki, Minnick, Cody Foster, and Tommy Saueressig had a goal each. Alex Melitz had seven saves on 15 shots on goal for the Pirates.

Spencer Dorfneilsen and Alec Davis led Hendrix with four points on a pair of goals and assists each. Warriors' goalie Patrick Adamo had 18 saves on 33 shots on goal.

With the win, the Pirates open the season 1-0. Southwestern will hosts Birmingham-Southern next Saturday, on Feb. 15 at noon, then play Berry at home a week after that on Feb. 22 at 1:00 p.m.
