Mike Montgomery

Mike Montgomery was named the recruiting coordinator and assistant coach in July 2018 after four years as the volunteer assistant coach.
 
Prior to joining the staff, Coach Montgomery put in 29 years as a teacher and coach in the state of Texas.  During this time, he spent 17 years as a Head Baseball Coach at Borger HS, Odessa HS and San Marcos HS. He also served as the Head/Pitching coach for 5 years with the Lake Erie Monarchs of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League.  Mike has lead a number of teams into postseason play, as well as, help numerous players reach the collegiate and professional levels, including his son who pitched at Middle Tennessee State and for the Evansville Otters.
 
Mike graduated from Olathe HS (Ks.) where he earned a scholarship to play football and baseball at Emporia State University in Emporia Kansas.  After 1 year of football, he decided to focus his efforts on playing baseball. During his time at ESU he led the Hornets to several postseason appearances, including a trip to the NAIA World Series in 1984, where they finished 3rd, along with Southwestern University.  Coach Montgomery still ranks 3rd all-time in appearances, 5th in innings pitched, 8th in strike outs, 3rd in wins and 1st in no-hitters thrown(3).
 
He has been married to his wife Benita for 34 years and has 2 sons, Matt (32) and Nick (29).  They also have 1 granddaughter.
