2024 SCAC Conference Tournament

2024 SCAC Conference Tournament

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Pirates Softball entered the 2024 SCAC Conference Championships as a 4th seed and faced Centenary for game one at Ed Kruse Stadium in Seguin, TX. The Pirates quickly took control of game one on Friday, May 3rd afternoon, winning 9-3. They then faced the host school, Texas Lutheran, for game two on Friday. The Pirates couldn't cut the deficit to the Bulldogs, losing 1-5, and got bumped to the Elimantion side of the bracket.

Saturday, in their first elimination game, they struggled to get any runs versus the Roos of Austin College. Heading into the bottom of the 7th inning, the Pirates were down 0-3. Jodi Glenn-Millhouse got on base, as did pinch runner Ashtyn Aldrete for Meghan McCarthy. Riley Glenn-Millhouse singled, bringing Jodie Glenn-Millhouse for the Pirate's first score of the game. The Pirates were still trailing by one, with two outs, in the bottom of the seventh. Samantha Saenz stepped and, on the second pitch, hit it down the middle to bring in one run. Riley Glenn-Millhouse rounded third on the throw and got to homeplate on the throw, scoring the go-ahead run and keeping the Pirate's season alive!

The Pirates would face and beat St. Thomas in their second elimination game of the day, giving them the opportunity to play a third game, versus Trinity at 8:00 PM on Saturday evening. Again, it came down to the bottom of the seventh, but this time, the Tigers advanced with the 4-3 win over the Pirates.

It was a jampacked weekend of competition, Coach Lynn recapped her team's experience at the 2024 SCAC Championships, "To start, what a weekend for our team. To start elimination Saturday off with a 3 run bottom of the 7th with two outs and no one on just shows the fight that I know has been in the team all year long. That really was a springboard for the next two games and was the source of energy that we needed. I am so proud of the determination, togetherness, grittiness and heart that the team played with this weekend. They left everything on the field and there is nothing more that I could have asked of them. It was an emotional ending that didn't fall our way to a really phenomenal day. There were moments that will stick with each of us for the rest of our lives and that's really special. The love for softball, each other and being a Pirate was shown to the entire conference this weekend."

Samantha Saenz, Riley Glenn-Millhouse, and Sophia Ytuarte were all selected for the All-Tournament Team.
