SEGUIN, Texas - The Southwestern University softball team could not get the offense rolling as the Pirates lost their first series game to Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs this Friday evening in Seguin.

TLU won 8-0 and Southwestern drops 4-5 on the year and 3-1 in Southern Colligate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play.

The Bulldog win came in a game that was shortened to six innings. Both Southwestern and TLU held each other to zero runs in the first inning. However, the Bulldogs took a 3-0 lead at the bottom of the second, with TLU taking four hits off pitcher Tori Montemayor.

The Pirates were once again scoreless in the third inning but were able to keep the Bulldogs from scoring as well. But in the bottom of the fourth, TLU scored two unearned runs and pushed the Bulldogs lead to 5-0. The Pirates were able to extend the game past five innings to try to make a comeback, but TLU prevented the Pirates from scoring while the Bulldogs made three more runs to end the game 8-0.

Izzy Richey had the only two hits of the game for the Pirates as she led off the top of the second inning with a single and the fourth inning with a single to center field. Montemayor took the loss for Southwestern to drop to 3-3 on the year.

Up next, Southwestern softball will turn around for a doubleheader tomorrow, on Saturday, March 13, against the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs to finish the series.
