Pirates Take Game 3 To Earn The 2-1 Series Victory Over the Celts

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Softball traveled (6-19) traveled to Houston, TX for a three-game series versus the St. Thomas Celts (12-7). Game one was Friday evening and the Pirates earned the 4-0 victory. The Celts bounced back and took game two only for the Pirates to come into game three and get the 2-0 victory backed by some strong pitching. 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sophia Ytuarte earned a 5-hit shutout in game one and came back to pitch another complete game shutout in game three to clinch the series. 
  • In Game one, Brooke Yanta hit a double, earned 2 RBI's and was credited with a SAC. 
  • Ytuarte also earned an RBI in Game three, to bring Meghan McCarthy in for the go-ahead run. 

NOTES

  • Ytuarte faced 51 batters for the series with a Pitch-Strike total of 162-106
  • St. Thomas found themselves in several scoring opportunities in game three but Southwestern's defense held them off
  • In Game two 5th inning, the Pirates were within 1 run before the Celts went on a run to finish the game 11-3
