GEORGETOWN, Texas — Tori Montemayor had two RBIs and pitched a complete game, helping to lead the Southwestern softball team to a 3-1 victory over the Schreiner Mountaineers to win the three-game series 2-1.

The Southwestern defense set the tone early, holding Schreiner to a three-and-out to start the game. Riley Rudloff opened the bottom of the inning with a leadoff single to left field, then stole second. After a Montemayor fly out to left, Izzy Richey hit a double to center to put runners on second and third.

Maddie Mefford hit a fly ball to right, reaching on an error and scoring Rudloff on what would have been a sacrifice fly. Southwestern added another two runs in the bottom of the second with a two-RBI double from Montemayor down the left-field line, scoring Sam Martinez and Rudloff, who reached on a single and walk.

Montemayor and the Pirates defense retired nine of the first 10 hitters faced, holding Schreiner to just five hits with a single run scored on a fielder's choice in the seventh inning.

Katelyn Francis and Martinez each hit 2-for-3, with Martinez scoring a run. Rudloff was 2-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs.

Southwestern improves to 7-11 with the win, including 5-4 in conference play. The Pirates will travel next weekend for a three-game series against Centenary, playing a single game Friday, April 2, and a doubleheader on Saturday, April 3.
