SEGUIN, Texas – The Southwestern University softball team struggled in their doubleheader games against the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs, losing lost 10-0 and 6-2 this Saturday afternoon.

Game 1 – Texas Lutheran 10, Southwestern 0
Much like Friday's game, TLU took a four-run lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Bulldogs again scored in the second inning, making the game 5-0. Southwestern pitcher Kinly McCaffrey was able to keep the Bulldogs from scoring in the third inning. However, TLU caught another running spree and scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Pirates were unable to score any runs to keep the game going, so the game ended in the top of the fifth with the Bulldogs winning 10-0.  Izzy Richey had the only hit of the game for Southwestern as she led off the top of the first inning with a single.

Game 2 – Texas Lutheran 6, Southwestern 2
At the start of the second game, the Pirates kept the Bulldogs from scoring any runs in the first inning as Southwestern grounded out the first two hitters and pitcher Paige Rassmusen struck out the Bulldog hitter.  Going into the top of the second inning, the Pirates found their rhythm and Katelyn Francis earned one RBI by grounding out to the shortstop for Sam Martinez to score the first run for the Pirates, giving Southwestern the lead in the game. But TLU quickly evened the score by making a run in the bottom of the second inning. They went on to score two more runs in the third inning, giving TLU a 3-1 lead. Both the Pirates and the Bulldogs went scoreless in the fourth inning, but TLU kept the Pirates from scoring any runs in the top of the fifth, while the Bulldogs scored three more runs to extend their lead. In the top of the sixth, Madyson Runge hit in the second run for the Pirates, earning an RBI with Richey to score. But TLU held the Pirates from scoring another run, ending the game 6-2 in the top of the seventh.

The losses drop Southwestern to 4-7 on the year and 3-3 in conference play. Up next, Southwestern softball will travel to Marshall, Texas, to play the East Texas Baptist Tigers in a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 23, at 3 and 5 p.m.
