GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Southwestern University softball team came out this Sunday afternoon and dominated the Dallas Crusaders in a 19-3 victory at Taylor-Sanders' field.

This is the third time in history the Southwestern softball team has scored 19 runs in a game, and the team was close to making the game a complete shut out.

In the top of the first inning, Dallas's first three hitters were grounded out by the Pirate defense. When the Pirates came to bat, Southwestern was quickly able to get on base, so when Izzy Richey came up to bat and singled to centerfield, she was able to earn one RBI and have Tori Montemayor score the first run. Soon after, Jessey Nunez singled to left field, earning one RBI as Maddie Mefford scored to close the inning 2-0.

Once again, Dallas was held to zero runs in the top of the second inning by a strong Pirate defense, and then the Pirates took over to score 12 runs in the second inning and give Southwestern a 14-run lead over the Crusaders. Katelyn FrancisKathryn Dull, Sam Martinez and Richey all earned one RBI. Nunez earned two RBI's, Kaylee White acquired three RBI's after doubling to left field and Mefford, who batted twice, earned three RBI's.

Dallas struggled to answer back and score after the Pirates took the huge lead. Southwestern continued their run streak in the bottom of the third inning, with Madyson Runge stealing home to score the 15th run. Then Montemayor, plunged the ball deep into right field, allowing her to triple and earn three RBI's, making the score 18-0. To in end the inning, Francis doubled to center field, earning one RBI and scoring the 19th run of the game.

Both teams were scoreless in the fourth inning to push the game to possibly end in the top of the fifth. They were close to a shut out but then Dallas's Brenna Kelly slammed the ball over the fence to earn her a home run and two RBIs. The game ended at 19-3.

In a spectacularly played game by the Pirates, Montemayor scored the high of 4 runs and three RBIs. White scored three runs and three RBIs and Mefford and Nunez both scored two runs and three RBIs.

Southwestern softball improves the team record with 4-3 in-season play and 3-0 in the conference. The Pirates will get ready for a week full of away games, first stopping in Belton, Texas to play the Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders, at 6 p.m., Wednesday, March 10. Then Southwestern will travel to Seguin to play the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs in the three-game series on Friday, March 12 and Saturday, March 13.
